It's the half-way point between the Friday of Memorial Day weekend (May 23 this year) and Labor Day (Sept. 1) – which came out to yesterday per our calculations here. So for calendar-summer-adherents like us, your second half of summer kickoff is today; make the most of it!  And happy Bastille Day (or le 14 juillet or la fête nationale, as you prefer).
